How to handle the macOS authentication prompt displayed when selecting Trust FileCloud For Office in FileCloud Desktop for macOS?

Original Question or Issue:

How to handle the macOS authentication prompt displayed when selecting Trust FileCloud For Office in FileCloud Desktop for macOS?

Environment:

  • Product - FileCloud Desktop for macOS
  • Version - 23.253.2
  • Platform - macOS

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Install and launch FileCloud Desktop for macOS.
  • Open Settings.
  • Select Trust FileCloud For Office.
  • Observe the macOS authentication prompt for System Certificate Trust Settings.
  • Provide administrator credentials.
  • Verify that Trust FileCloud For Office becomes enabled.

Error or Log Message:

macOS system prompt:

"You are making changes to the System Certificate Trust Settings."

Administrator authentication is requested before the trust setting can be modified.

Defect or Enhancement Number:

Cause:

The Trust FileCloud For Office operation modifies the macOS System Certificate Trust Settings. macOS treats changes to system certificate trust settings as a privileged operation and requires authentication.

The authentication prompt is expected for both standard users and local administrator users. Standard users require administrator credentials to complete the operation.

Resolution or Workaround:

  • Provide the required administrator credentials when prompted.
  • After successful authentication, Trust FileCloud For Office becomes enabled.
  • No officially supported method is currently available to pre-deploy the required trust/certificate and eliminate the authentication prompt through MDM solutions such as Jamf.
  • Enterprise deployment automation for this step requires further product investigation and design.
