FileCloud Users Stuck on Login Page After Upgrading to Version 23.263

Users may remain on the login or Terms of Service screen after successful authentication when the Initial User Web Portal Path is configured.

Original Question or Issue:

After upgrading to FileCloud 23.263, users may successfully enter their credentials and complete MFA authentication but remain stuck on the login page or Terms of Service screen instead of being redirected to their files.

Users accessing the FileCloud root URL are automatically redirected to a URL containing ?path=, after which LDAP/AD or other login attempts return them to the login page.

Environment:

  • Product - FileCloud Server
  • Version - 23.263.2
  • Platform - Windows

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Log in to the FileCloud Admin Portal.
  2. Navigate to Customization > URL Configuration.
  3. Under Initial User Web Portal Path, configure a folder path (for example, expl-tabl./EXTERNAL/Clients) and save the changes.
  4. Open a new private/incognito browser window.
  5. Access the FileCloud User Portal using https://www.your-filecloud-url/ui/core/index.html#.

  6. Observe that FileCloud redirects to the User Portal with the configured folder path appended to the URL as ?path=.
  7. Enter valid user credentials and complete MFA authentication, if enabled.
  8. Observe that the login process does not complete as expected. The user remains on the login page or Terms of Service screen instead of being redirected to their files.

Error or Log Message:

Users may remain on the login page or Terms of Service screen even after entering valid credentials and successfully completing MFA, if enabled.

The browser URL may contain a redirected path similar to:

https://your-filecloud-url/ui/core/index.html?path=expl-tabl.%2FEXTERNAL%2FClients

Note: %2F is the URL-encoded representation of / and is not itself an error.

An explicit authentication error may not appear because authentication can succeed while navigation to the User Portal fails.

Defect or Enhancement Number:

FCL-14559 / FCL-14767

Cause:

A regression introduced in FileCloud 23.263 affects environments where Initial User Web Portal Path is configured.

When users access the FileCloud root URL, the backend redirects them to the User Portal with the configured folder path included as a query parameter (?path=).

The User Portal may incorrectly interpret this URL as indicating that the user is already in the file browser. As a result, it skips the expected navigation after successful authentication.

Users may therefore remain on the login page or Terms of Service screen, even though their credentials and MFA authentication were successfully processed.

Resolution or Workaround:

Until a permanent fix is available, use one of the following workarounds.

Option 1: Bookmark the Direct User Portal URL (Recommended)

If you want to retain the configured initial folder path:

  1. Open the FileCloud User Portal directly using:https://your-filecloud-url/ui/core/index.html#
  2. Sign in using your normal credentials and complete MFA, if enabled.
  3. Verify that you can access your files successfully.
  4. Save this URL as a browser bookmark and use it instead of the FileCloud root URL.

This bypasses the affected root-URL redirect while preserving the configured initial folder behavior.

Option 2: Remove the Initial User Web Portal Path

  1. Sign in to the FileCloud Admin Portal.
  2. Navigate to Customization > URL Configuration.
  3. Locate Initial User Web Portal Path.
  4. Clear the configured value and save the changes.
  5. Open the FileCloud root URL in a new private/incognito browser window.
  6. Sign in and verify that the User Portal loads successfully.

Important: This option removes the automatic navigation to the previously configured folder after login.

Notes:

  • The issue was identified in the FileCloud 23.263 release family.
  • The issue can affect users authenticating through Active Directory (AD)/LDAP, as well as other authentication methods, with or without MFA enabled.
  • The issue is related to post-authentication navigation rather than necessarily invalid credentials or failed authentication.
  • FileCloud Development is tracking the regression for a permanent fix.
  • FileCloud 23.271 is tentatively targeted for the fix. This is not a confirmed release commitment and may change.
  • Until a permanent fix is officially released, customers should continue using one of the documented workarounds.
  • If login still fails when using the direct User Portal URL, further investigation may be required to identify a separate authentication issue.
