File Share Expiration Not Updating When Modifying Users After Upgrade

Original Question or Issue:

After upgrading, modifying users in an existing shared folder (removing and re-adding users) does not reset or extend the share expiration date to 14 days as expected.

Environment:

  • Product - FileCloud Server
  • Version - 23.253.2
  • Platform - Any

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Create or use an existing shared folder.
  • Share the folder with users and set an expiration date (e.g., 14 days).
  • Remove a user from the shared folder.
  • Re-add the same user to the share.
  • Observe the expiration date.

Error or Log Message:

  • No specific error message observed.
  • Behavior issue: Expiration date does not reset or extend as expected.

Defect or Enhancement Number:

  • No JIRA assigned

Cause:

The share expiration is tied to the share object itself, not individual users.

Removing and re-adding users does not recreate or reset the share, so the original expiration date remains unchanged.

Resolution or Workaround:

To properly reset the expiration date:

  1. Navigate to "Shared by me" in the FileCloud web interface.
  2. Locate the affected shared folder.
  3. Delete the entire share (this removes all users).
  4. Recreate the share and add the required users again.

This process creates a new share object and resets the expiration date correctly.

Notes:

  • This behavior is expected after recent upgrades and is not considered a defect.
  • Users should avoid managing expiration by modifying individual users in a share.
  • Recommended practice is to manage shares via the "Shared by me" section for consistency.
