Fcdocconverter doesn't release Apache threads

Why does FileCloud go down when fcdocconverter is running?

FileCloud Server becomes unresponsive because fcdocconverter does not release Apache threads, eventually exhausting all available threads. To resolve this, stop the fcdocconverter OS service and disable it in the FileCloud Admin Portal.

FileCloud Server becomes unresponsive and requires a manual restart. The root cause was not immediately apparent.

Environment:

• Product - FileCloud Server
• Version - 23.251 and later (verify whether your version is affected)
• Platform - Linux

Steps to Reproduce:

fcdocconverter started and configured in the Admin portal.

Error or Log Message:

No Apache logs.

Defect or Enhancement Number:

FCL-2488

Cause:

fcdocconverter does not release Apache threads, which eventually exhausts the available thread pool and causes FileCloud Server to become unresponsive.

Resolution or Workaround:

Follow these steps in order:

1. Stop the fcdocconverter OS service on the Linux host:

   sudo systemctl stop fcdocconverter

2. Prevent the service from restarting automatically on reboot:

   sudo systemctl disable fcdocconverter

3. Log in to the FileCloud Admin Portal.
4. Navigate to the document converter settings and disable fcdocconverter.
5. Save your changes.
