Configure Notification Preferences for External Users

Configure a dedicated policy to allow external users to manage their notification preferences.

Original Question or Issue:

Can external users be configured so that notifications are disabled by default while still allowing them to manage their own notification preferences from the User Portal?

Environment:

  • Product - FileCloud Server, FileCloud Online
  • Version -
  • Platform - Windows, Linux

Steps to Reproduce:

Error or Log Message:

Defect or Enhancement Number:

Cause:

Resolution or Workaround:

  1. Create a new policy (for example, ExternalUsers).

2. Assign your External group to this policy.

3. In the Notifications tab, do not enable Disable Notifications or Disable User Override.
    • Disable Notifications disables all notifications for users in the policy.
    • Disable User Override prevents users from customizing their notification preferences.

This allows you to selectively disable notification types while still allowing users to manage the remaining notification settings.

After applying the policy, external users will still be able to manage their available notification preferences from the User Portal under Settings → Notifications, as shown below:

Notes:

Disable Notifications is not specifically an external-user setting. It applies to all users assigned to the policy.

Disable User Override should remain disabled when users need the ability to manage their own notification preferences.
